Dark Chocolate Mousse Recipe – how to make the best quick and easy simple no bake dessert with only 3 ingredients including eggs and can be dairy free – with the video tutorial.
Dark Chocolate Mousse
This dark chocolate mousse recipe makes an indulgent sweet treat and best of all it has only 3 ingredients and is quick and easy to prepare.
You could make this mousse for special occasions such as a romantic date night or Valentine’s Day.
We adore dark chocolate desserts so I’ve used 70% dark chocolate for an incredibly rich, dark chocolate mousse, you may prefer to switch to milk chocolate or any other good quality chocolate instead, depending on your own tastes.
Important Note – this dessert does include raw eggs, which should be avoided by those who are pregnant, children or those with a weakened immunity. I’ve been making this chocolate mousse for years and had no issues with incorporating eggs that I’ve bought at stores here in Ireland and consuming them raw. If you’d prefer not to consume or serve raw eggs, then avoid this recipe and you can make my 2 ingredient apple chocolate mousse instead.
How To Make The Decadent Dessert
Start by gathering the 3 simple ingredients for the easy recipe:
- 100g/3.5oz Dark Chocolate
- 100g/3.5oz Unsalted Butter
- 4 Eggs
Melt the bittersweet chocolate and butter together, either in the microwave in 30 second bursts, straight in a saucepan on the stove top or in a double boiler, where you place the chocolate and butter into a large bowl over a saucepan of bubbling water and heat until fully melted.
Once the chocolate and butter has melted, set it aside to cool and see to the eggs.
Separate the eggs into two bowls – with the egg yolks in one bowl and the egg whites in a second bowl or bowl with a whisk attachment.
Usually in chocolate mousse recipes the egg yolks are whisked first before the egg whites, with the whisk being cleaned and dried between so that the egg whites are whisked with clean, dry whisks.
I prefer to whisk the egg whites to soft peaks or a meringue like texture first with my electric mixer and then seeing to the yolks second, so that I don’t have to wash the whisks inbetween.
Once the egg whites have been whisked, whisk the egg yolks into the melted chocolate, one yolk at a time until you have a smooth and creamy texture.
Then, it’s just a matter of folding the whipped egg whites into the chocolate egg mixture, a third at a time until you have the perfect smooth texture.
Move the 3 ingredient chocolate mousse into a serving bowl or individual bowls, then place in the fridge for at least 4 hours, or overnight, to thicken before enjoying your homemade chocolate pudding dessert.
You can feel free to adapt the classic chocolate mousse recipe by adding in your choice of extra ingredients such as a half a teaspoon of vanilla extract, espresso powder or pinch of sea salt to enhance the rich chocolate flavor.
Top your simple chocolate mousse recipe with fresh berries, whipped cream or chocolate shavings for an extra indulgent dessert treat.
