Halloween Dirt Cake Recipe – How to make a fun easy dessert treat with Oreos and gummy candy decorations for the spooky season – with the video tutorial.
Halloween Dirt Cake Recipe
This Halloween Dirt Cake Recipe makes a fun and easy treat that both kids and adults will enjoy.
You can make a chocolate pudding base or a quick chocolate mousse, as I have done in this simple recipe.
For the dirt/crumb topping, I’ve used a gluten free oreo substitute I found at Aldi, but you could you use regular oreos or any other chocolate cookie or biscuit that you’d like.
You can really get creative with the toppings, adding on gummy worms as I have done, plus any other Halloween food decorations you have to had. I had some leftover from the Halloween Bark I shared the other day, so added those on top for an extra spooky finish.
How To Make The Chocolate Pudding
To make the chocolate mousse base of the dirt cake you’ll need the following simple ingredients:
- 1 Cup Heavy Cream
- 100g/3.5oz Cream Cheese
- 1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder
- 2 Tablespoons Sugar
Pour the heavy cream into a large bowl, then whisk with an electric mixer until just starting to form whipped cream. You can use heavy cream, heavy whipping cream, double cream or any other cream that you can whip into freshly whipped cream.
Add in the cream cheese then whisk again until smooth and creamy. Finally add in the cocoa powder and sugar then give the chocolate mousse a final whisk until everything is fully combined together.
I’ve suggested 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder and 2 tablespoons of sugar in the easy recipe, which results in the perfectly sweet and chocolatey mousse, you may prefer a richer chocolate or sweeter mousse, in which case add more of one ingredient or the other.
You can serve the cake from one large dish, as I have done, or distribute the chocolate mousse and toppings among a number of small cups to create Halloween Dirt Cups instead.
Move the chocolate mousse to your chosen dish or cups, then place oreos or your biscuit of choice into a ziploc bag and roll over them with a rolling pin until you have cookie crumbs that will be the dirt in your dessert.
Top the chocolate mousse with the Oreo cookie crumbs dirt then top that with your choice of gummy worms and other decorations.

- Gummy Worms or Snakes
- Orange, yellow and purple M&Ms or Smarties
